You Need To Be Careful Because Maternity Health Insurance Often Doesn’t Cover 100% Needs
You would think that with all of the babies born in the United States that there would be maternity health insurance everywhere that would cover the cost wouldn’t you? The cost for having a baby is expensive and millions of women find themselves paying out of pocket expenses to have a baby nowadays. After a while that could really add up especially when the cost is about $7,000 on average to have a baby.
Most women are under the assumption that when they go out on maternity leave that their maternity health insurance is going to cover everything, when in reality not everything is going to be covered. Maternity leave will cover only your disability benefit part. This is going to be difficult because chances are that you are going to have to do a search to find another insurance that will cover the balance.
Costs could become really staggering if there are complications with your pregnancy or if you have problems when you give birth to your baby; this could make the costs rise considerably. And especially if the baby were premature; you may end up paying almost double that amount. This is because of the special equipment that has to be brought in for that premature infant for survival.
It is very possible that the insurance that you do have will not cover all of the maternity costs. You can get additional coverage but that even may not be enough to cover everything that has to be covered. For all of the options you are going to have, do an extensive search to find what is going to be the best program for your growing family.
So far, there are only 18 states that have enacted laws where pregnant women have to be covered during and after their pregnancy for natal care. You would have to perform a search to find out if your state is one of the lucky ones. It is not always easy to plan for pregnancy but you really should plan well in advance so that you have the proper insurance in place. However, if you do careful planning you can probably come up with a solution before the baby is born.
You may be able to find a supplemental insurance that will cover things that your regular short term disability insurance will not cover; sometimes to get by you need more than one insurance. If you need to find a way to cover birthing costs, then you should look to see if you qualify for government supplements. To save money these days, insurance companies are scaling back on the costs of almost everything; it is complicated, granted, but these are the facts.
